FAQs

Do I need to make an appointment?

MalagaVet does run by appointments, so please call us prior to your visit. Usually it is no problem to fit you in the same day at short notice. If you have an emergency please come to the hospital as soon as possible, perhaps call on the way to let us know you are coming if you have time. Emergent cases will always be seen as soon as possible.

Where are you located?

We are located just off Alexander Drive opposite the McDonald’s restaurant in Malaga. There is plenty of parking right out the front the hospital.

Does MalagaVet run puppy pre-school classes?

Yes we do. Please refer to What's on at MalagaVet page for more information regard the puppy preschool classes available at MalagaVet.

How often should my pet get a check up?

Pets should have a general health check once a year at least. This can coincide with an annual vaccination, or can be done separately to the vaccine procedure. We send reminders for annual vaccinations for this reason. As pets get older it is recommended to check up once every six months.

What should I do if my pet is sick and MalagaVet is closed?

If your pet is sick after we have closed and you are not sure what to do, it is best if you call an after-hours hospital and at least talk to the staff to see if you need to bring your pet in as an emergency or, if it can wait til the morning. Most things can wait overnight, but of course there are true emergencies which should not wait. In the Northern Suburbs our after hours veterinary hospitals are Balcatta Veterinary Hospital (phone  9345 4644)  and Perth Vet Emergency (Osborne Park) phone 9204 0400.

I’ve run out of my pets’ medication, can I just get some more without bringing my pet in?

You should call us and speak to a veterinary nurse in regard to this. Our staff will check your pets’ record and tell you whether a repeat prescription is authorised, or if you need to bring your pet in again. Veterinary prescribing is much like a doctor’s prescription, in that sometimes repeats can be authorised. If it has been over six months since your pet was seen, then usually the vet will need to check your pet again prior to re-dispensing. This is a legal requirement on all practicing veterinarians to ensure the right medication is dispensed for the right problem and animal.
